A Look at Booktubers and Other News

BooksandLala (a fellow Canadian!) has posted videos including a look at July releases and movie adaptations, a video where she lists the last 36 books she read and reveals the top 5!  I have read the book that was her number one read, and it was definitely a solid choice, though you’ll have to watch her video to find out what it is.

Jessethereader has a video talking about adaptations.  This includes the (re?)adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events.  Another video is a reaction to the new trailer for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.  You can see the trailer here.  One thing I noticed in this video is some uncertainty about changes that the movie is making, specifically that the some characters peculiarities are being changed.  I talked a bit about my thoughts on adaptations and loyalty to the source material in my last post.  Another video looks at his anticipated summer releases.

ProblemsofaBookNerd has a video about the books she plans to read this month, and a video about what she read in June.  She also has a recommendation video.

And finally, Variety and Io9 take a look at the less than stellar early numbers for BFG.  Personally, I think the first mistake they made is not changing the title to Big Friendly Giant.  I think modern viewers come up with a much different word than Friendly when they see BFG, and its not a word that works for the title of a family film.
