Happy New Year! If you’re like me you already had a long list of 2017 book releases that you have your eyes on. If not, I’m here to help you create your list.
Such a novel idea presents a list of the books the bloggers are looking forward to getting their hands on this year. Here we find Labyrinth retelling Wintersong as well as the science-fiction title Empress of a Thousand Skies. There is also Dreamfall by Amy Plum, where an experiment meant to cure insomnia traps the participants in a world where their worst nightmares come true.
Barnes & Noble’s teen blog selects 23 books to look out for in January. If you’re lucky like me, you got a bookstore gift card for Christmas, because you might need it. The list includes the new books in Susan Dennard and Alexandra Bracken’s Truthwitch and Passenger series’ respectively. The post also mentions what seems to be one of the most anticipated YA releases of the entire year, Caraval by debut author Stephanie Garber. This book tells the story of two sisters who receive tickets to the mystical performance known as Caraval. But when they arrive at the event, known for audience participation, one of the sisters goes missing and it’s revealed that this year’s Caraval is a search for the missing girl.
Readings offers up some relatively little-known 2017 releases, such as Amelia Westlake by Erin Gough. This book follows two girls who fall for each other while planning to bring down their elite school.
A list from Lili’s Reflections includes the latest from Cinder author Marissa Meyer, The Gatlon School for the Gifted. This one focuses on two schools for superheroes. There is also The Love Interest from Cale Dietrich, about two spies in training who are both sent to try to get close to one girl, with the idea being she will hopefully choose one of the two, with the one who doesn’t get chosen being marked for death. But the plan goes awry when the young spies begin to develop feelings… not for the mark, but each other.
Moving onto Booktube, this video from BookGeekMovieFreak includes the already released The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett and the rapidly approaching Phantom of The Opera retelling Roseblood from A.G. Howard. Jnooklover mentions Roseblood and Caraval, as well as The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles, about two siblings who come into contact with a bounty hunter from another world.
