Variety reports that Netflix has set two middle grade series for 2017. One of the projects will focus on a girl whose love for a horse helps her deal with difficult family issues. The other project is based on The Worst Witch books by Jill Murphy, the first of which was published in 1974. The series follows clumsy protagonist Mildred Hubble, as she makes her way through Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches. The series will be the fifth adaptation of the book series, one of which, a 1998 television series, included a young Felicity Jones as Mildred’s rival Ethel Hallow.
