Looking for A Good Novel?

Books to check out!

Epic Reads presents the twelve most exciting books coming out this spring, including new releases in the Red Queen, Caravel, and Carve the Mark series. Catching my eye are All of This is True and The Lies They Tell.  The former is about a group of friends who meet their favourite YA author, while the latter is about a girl who befriends the in crowd to prove her father innocent of causing a fire that left a number of people dead.

Overflowing Bookshelves reviews the aforementioned All of This is True, and is very positive about the novel. The story is apparently told through things like emails and interviews.  I generally prefer a more simple narrative, but we’ll see.

Meanwhile, Literary Dust looks at Legendary, the second book in the Caravel series from Stephanie Garber. This is another positive review, though she will be upset if there are not more books in the series to wrap up the unanswered questions.

Lair of Books looks at yet another choice from the Epic Reads list, Furyborn from Claire Legrand. Legrand has been a bit hit and miss for me, so I’m not sure if I’ll pick up this fantasy story, told in two separate POVs, years apart from each other.  But if this review is anything to go by, this might be one to check out.

The Barnes & Noble teen blog presents seven fantasy novels you might want to check out this year if you don’t have time for a series. The standalones include two options inspired by The Little Mermaid, and another new book from Claire Legrand, Sawkill Girls.  In spite of my mixed history with Legrand, this is probably my most anticipated book on the list, telling the story of three girls who must defeat a monster that has been abducting girls for years.

The blog also offers a list of twenty-five books coming out this April, including a modern take on Lizzie Borden. There is also White Rabbit from Caleb Roherig, about a protagonist who sets out to discover the truth about a murder mystery involving his sister.

I’ve recently discovered the YouTube channel for Alexa Donne, who’s Jane Eyre in space story Brightly Burning is set to hit shelves in the near future. Her videos include ten things to expect from the book (cats in space!), and a reveal of the next book she will be retelling in the same universe.

Finally, Penguin Teen offers up a list of anticipated summer releases, including a new series from Sally Green, whose Half-Bad series was generally well-received, though the sequels didn’t seem to be universally beloved. There is also Undead Girl Gang, called Veronica Mars meets The Craft, and the final book in Danielle Vega’s controversial The merciless series.
